Hold onto your hats, EV enthusiasts! Kia has just unveiled a refreshed EV6, and the updates are impressive. The best part? The price increase is almost negligible. But let's dive into the details, shall we?
Kia is rolling out an updated EV6 lineup with a larger battery, some stylish design tweaks, and upgraded tech – all while keeping the price hike to a mere $70. That's right, a tiny increase for some significant upgrades.
So, what's new? The entire updated EV6 range now boasts a bigger 84 kWh battery, a step up from the previous 77.4 kWh. This translates to a boost in the WLTP driving range. The entry-level EV6 Air RWD gets up to 54 km more range, while the top-spec GT AWD sees an increase of 26 km.
Here's a quick breakdown:
| Variant | Powertrain | WLTP Range | Range Increase | RRP |
|-----------------|-------------------|------------|----------------|----------|
| Air RWD | Single Motor RWD | 582 km | 54 km | $72,660 |
| GT-Line RWD | Single Motor RWD | 560 km | 52 km | $79,660 |
| GT-Line AWD | Dual Motor AWD | 522 km | 38 km | $87,660 |
| GT AWD | Dual Motor AWD | 450 km | 26 km | $99,660 |
Beyond the battery, the updated EV6 gets a design refresh. Kia has subtly enhanced the EV6's appearance to align it with the rest of their EV family, while still keeping its sporty vibe.
New headlights and daytime running lights (DRLs) at the front, along with three-dimensional taillights at the rear, use Kia's signature Star Map design language. These wing-like elements give the car a wider, more dynamic look. The front bumper has sharper lines, and there are new wheel designs, ranging from 19-inch to 21-inch, depending on the trim level.
Inside, you'll find a new 3-spoke steering wheel inspired by the award-winning EV9. The center console has a sleek new finish, and the GT-Line and GT variants feature Kia's fingerprint recognition technology. The interior maintains its driver-focused layout, with dual 12.3-inch screens for the driver's display and infotainment functions.
But here's where it gets interesting: the infotainment system has been upgraded with Kia's ccNC (Connected Car Navigation Cockpit) software. This provides improved graphics and addresses some of the shortcomings of the previous system. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are now standard across the board, replacing the previous wired versions. Connectivity updates also include Kia Connect, offering remote vehicle functions like climate control, vehicle status, and the ability to locate your car.
And this is the part most people miss: The updated connectivity also introduces over-the-air (OTA) software updates. This means your EV6 can receive new features and upgrades over time, ensuring it always runs the latest software.
The EV6 GT also gets some handling tweaks. It features stiffer rear sway bars and softer front springs. Kia Australia has retuned the suspension and steering to improve ride and handling in all drive modes, providing a more natural feel and better grip.
These updates bring the EV6 up to par with Kia's newer EVs, offering improved driving range, design, and connectivity, all for a minimal price increase. The updated EV6 will be arriving in Kia dealerships across Australia soon.
